South-Eastern Asia

- the name used for the determination of the Asia region including Indochina Peninsula and the Malay A rchipelago and the Philippines. It therefore encompasses the foll owing countries: Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Mala ysia, Singapore, Indonesia, East Timor, Brunei and the Philippines. They occupy an area of approximately 4.495 million square kilometers, with a population exceeding 550 million inhabitants (estimate for 2004). Sometimes the South-East Asia also includes Burma, which is historically known.
